Jennifer Burn (Santoshananda)
Jennifer is the director of Awareness Yoga.
She started practicing yoga in 1994 at the Sivananda Centre in Toronto as a way to relieve stress. She then moved to the town of Fergus where she continued to attend classes with local teachers introducing her to the various styles and practices of yoga.
After the birth of her daughter, Jennifer was introduced to Esther Myers Yoga Studio in Toronto where she began to study the principles of alignment based on the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.
In 2004 she registered for the teachers training course with Monica Voss, Tama Soble and Paolo di Paolo of Esther Myers Studio, and completed this extensive 800 hr certification course.
Jennifer continues to upgrade her skills by attending developmental workshops and courses on teaching yoga to adults and children.
She has studied and completed a one year functional anatomy course and Yoga for Better Bones Training with Jayelle Lindsey of Living Yoga and Health.
In 2010 she received her certification to teach children and adults with special needs from Sonia Sumar, founder of Yoga for the Special Child.
In addition she has attended weekend workshops with Marsha Wenig of Yoga Kids and with Sheri Leblanc of Yoga 4 Kids, here she received her certificate in Teaching Yoga & Meditation to Children.
She has also participated in retreats and workshops in Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, England, U.S.A and India.
In 2011 she added to her training at the North American Yoga Academy completing a course in Yogic Studies. In 2012 she recieved her certification in Satyananda Yoga Nidra training. She is currently completing her second teacher training in the U.S to continue to build on her knowledge of Yoga.
Jennifer’s primary studies have been classical Hatha Yoga based on the ancient yogic philosophies of India. It utilizes postures, breathing, inner energy and meditation techniques to cultivate health, spiritual awareness and a total yogic lifestyle.
Jennifer regularly travels to India bringing groups to experience ashram life and to assist her teachers in programs. She finds joy in traveling and learning from different cultures and experiences.
She is enthusiastic about Yoga and learning, she continues to grow her knowledge base as she studies with many teachers from various schools. Jennifer deepens these teachings by applying them to her daily life on and off her Yoga mat.
In addition Jennifer also teaches yoga and meditation to the Upper Grand Family Health Team. She is in partnership with the Community Living Centre teaching yoga to adults living with developmental challenges. In 2006 she volunteered at Portage teaching teens yoga and meditation for two years.
Jennifer lives in Fergus with her daughter and husband.
Jennifer is the instructor for Awareness Morning Flow Yoga, Awareness Yoga Flow, Foundations of Yoga, Yoga for Chronic Pain, Yoga for Stress Management, Yoga Nidra, Wisdom Class and Yoga and Art classes.
